Attendance & Missed Lessons
Lesson times are standing appointments; a student’s lesson time is reserved for only them each week, and it is their responsibility to attend.
Parents should commit to a time in the studio schedule that they are confident in.
*However, please be assured that your tuition pays for far more than the time spent during a lesson, should you miss a scheduled lesson day.
How to Miss A Lesson, and NOT Miss Anything!
These options will assure you that your progress will continue under Mrs. Kirstyn's instruction, should you miss a scheduled lesson.
Need to Reschedule? Notify me 24 hours in advance from your lesson time and I will find a different time to reschedule your lesson which will be conducted at the music studio (if available) or on Zoom/FaceTime.
Day of Lesson
Mildly sick? No way to get to lessons? We will jump on Zoom/FaceTime for your lesson. This is a valuable way to keep your individual lesson time.
Scheduling Conflict? Not feeling well enough to have an online lesson? No call, no show? I’ll record a Video Lesson and send it to you within 48 hours.
Parents, you can call Mrs. Kirstyn during the regular scheduled lesson time and we can discuss your child's progress, answer any questions you might have and brainstorm ideas to enhance your child’s progress with piano and/or voice lessons.
Lesson Procedures & Recitals
Tonara App-Students will have their Tonara account to check their weekly assignments and to be accountable for home practice times.
Email-Every family will be committed to opening and reading studio emails to remain informed concerning events/announcements in the studio. Thank you!!
Recitals:
Studio recitals offer students a great sense of accomplishment and pride for their hard work! They also help them learn the importance of setting and achieving goals and will allow students to grow in self-confidence as they perform before an audience.
Our studio recitals are not intended to be an “overly stressful” experience, but an event to share the music that has been learned with family and friends.
Recitals are typically scheduled around December and June.
Time and date of recitals will be announced in enough time for families to plan their schedules for the events.
Participation in the recital is highly encouraged, but never mandatory.
Student gifts and awards make these events special at our studio!
What IF?
The studio does not follow any particular school districts schedule. Please always check the studio calendar for breaks and days off.
If the Teacher Must Cancel Lessons, students will always be offered to make up that lesson.
Extreme Weather: In the event of extreme weather like snow, ice and heavy rain, all lessons will occur as Zoom/FaceTime Lessons or video lessons sent during the student’s regular time if there is a concern for safety on the roads. No lessons will be cancelled and/or made up due to the weather.
Emergencies: In the case of emergencies, such as we experienced with Covid-19, and students are not able to attend lessons in the studio, ALL lessons will be conducted via Zoom/FaceTime following our regular studio schedule. No discounts or refunds for lessons in this case.
Practice/Progress Requirements:
Students who enroll in the studio agree to participate in consistent practice so that individual progress can be made.
Parents, where needed, agree to be a willing participant in encouraging this.
Mrs. Kirstyn will make sure that students have engaging music, at a proper level that students will enjoy learning. I completely understand that there will be weeks that “life” will happen, and practice will not get done. I’m speaking of seeing a generally overall, forward momentum in each student’s lessons.
About teacher
Kirstyn Cubangbang is the founder of Keywaves Music Lessons. She started learning music at the age of 6 years old and has played the piano for over 34 years and voice for 16 years .
Over the years, she has performed in numerous recitals, was a solo accompanist for a choir, played piano and sang at churches, youth events, and church conferences. She was the music/worship director at ICEA Church, The Gathering and Innovation Church.
Mrs. Kirstyn has a great passion to teach and help students build confidence in themselves and grow their musical talents. Whatever reason that you desire to learn the piano and/or voice, Mrs. Kirstyn is attentive to what your musical goals are. Her favorite part about teaching is seeing each individual play the songs that resonate the most with them whether it be pop chart tunes, jazz, classical, musical songs and much more! She combines the practical, fundamental elements of piano and voice with creativity and fun. Music has a way of speaking to the heart and giving language to the soul. This is what piano and singing has done for her, and it is her desire to pass that on to her students.
